Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369448
AB METHOD: The amount of 15 different steroids is measured in urine samples
of AIDS patients. Samples are compared before and after Chorionic
Gonadotropin (ChG) stimulation test: (1500 iu--3 days-1500 iu--2 days +
urinary sampling). RESULTS: The whole amount of urine steroids is 1/5 of
the normal value. Decrease is prominent for ethiocholanolone,
androsterone, DHEA, pregnandiol, pregnantriol. Decrease is less for
estrogens, testosterone, tetrahydrocortison and tetrahydrocortisol.
Testosterone/epitestosterone ratio is increased. Reaction to ChG is
poor. DISCUSSION: AIDS patients demonstrate hyporeactivity of steroids
producing tissues. Their excretion of steroids with urine looks much
more impaired than blood steroids level. CONCLUSION: Chorionic
gonadotropin is perspective to restore impaired steroids metabolism of
AIDS patients, which are endocrine patients in this aspect.
